Ornella Represents SCAI at the Open Source AI Conference 2025

On the 7th of May, we were proud to see Ornella, a member of the Swiss Center for Augmented Intelligence (SCAI), actively participating in the Open Source AI Conference 2025 — a flagship event dedicated to innovation, transparency, and digital sovereignty in the age of artificial intelligence.

Ornella took part in a thought-provoking panel discussion alongside Dr. Jacqueline Kucera (Head of the Parliament Library) and Erica Dubach Spiegler (Head of Digital Transformation and ICT Governance at the Federal Chancellery), under the expert moderation of Markus Danhel. The panel explored key themes such as open collaboration, responsible AI development, and the future of public sector digital transformation.

The following day, Ornella led a hands-on workshop on LLM-RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) during the Open Source AI Workshops. Her session brought together curious and engaged participants from across Switzerland and beyond, sparking insightful exchanges and practical experimentation with cutting-edge AI technologies.

Over the course of these two days, Ornella also had the opportunity to present the work of SCAI and iCoSys (Institute of Artificial Intelligence and Complex Systems at HES-SO Fribourg) — two research environments that embody a commitment to open, collaborative, and impactful AI.

We congratulate Ornella on her inspiring contribution to this important event and thank the #CHOpen team, #BFH, and all organizers for bringing together such a dynamic and forward-looking community.

Open source reminds us that the future of AI should be built together — through collaboration, not competition. I’m grateful to be part of a community that puts people first and strives for a more inclusive, transparent, and sustainable digital world.

INFRAROUGE #IA:

Switzerland must act decisively on AI—waiting risks falling behind. AI is a powerful innovation driver, and Switzerland should leverage its core values—neutrality, security, and trust—to define a clear strategy that protects fundamental rights while fostering innovation.

The Federal Council’s recent AI regulation decision is a step forward but lacks urgency. Switzerland must show ambition and equip itself properly for this technological shift.

AI is accelerating fast—the future will be rock ’n’ roll!

At INFRAROUGE, we discussed AI research, innovation, education, certification, and regulation. I also introduced #parliamentAI, a secure LLM-RAG project supporting Swiss parliamentarians.

How AI is Redefining Jobs: Insights from Dr. Silvia Quarteroni

Dr. Silvia Quarteroni, President of SCAI, Chief Transformation Officer and Head of Innovation at the Swiss Data Science Center, recently discussed at RTS the transformative impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the job market. She emphasized that automation through AI will redefine jobs rather than eliminate them, creating new professional opportunities.

In her talk, she explained that AI will take over repetitive and time-consuming tasks, allowing people to focus on higher-value activities. This shift will require workers to adapt by continuously updating their skills, especially in digital competencies.

Dr. Quarteroni also highlighted the critical role of ethics and regulation in the deployment of AI to ensure that its integration into the workplace is responsible and benefits society as a whole.
